Kingdom of God: Kingdom Prayer pt. 5

December 7, 2024

Title: Kingdom Prayer (Part 5) Text: Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil (Matthew 6:13) Target: The Lord’s Prayer becomes personalized, because it was actualized (Immanuel-God with us)! {Our God is Father, King, Provider, Forgiver, And....} I. God as Leader: lead us not into temptation. (Vs. 13a)       A. Your Guidance: “lead”             1. Request for Divine Direction: He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. (Psalm 23:2)             2. Request for Divine Protection: Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. (Proverbs 3:5-6)             3. Request for Divine Correction: The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps. (Proverbs 16:9)       B. Your Guarantee: “not”             1. To Sin: Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am being tempted by God,” for God cannot be tempted with evil, and he himself tempts no one. (James 1:13)             2. From Suffering: I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world. (John 16:33)       C. My Guardrails: “into temptation”             1. Our Boundaries: No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it. (1 Corinthians 10:13)             2. His Blessings: Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full ef ect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing. (James 1:2-4) II. God as Deliverer: but deliver us from evil. (Vs. 13b)       A. Your Power: “deliver”             1. Unto Salvation: He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son. (Colossians 1:13)             2. Unto Freedom: The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil. (1 John 3:8)       B. Your Purpose: “from”             1. No Longer Slaves: We know that our old self was crucified with him in order that the body of sin might be brought to nothing, so that we would no longer be enslaved to sin. For one who has died has been set free from sin. (Romans 6:6-7)             2. By His Spirit: But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. (Galatians 5:16)       C. Will Prevail: “evil”             1. Victor: But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. (1 Corinthians 15:58)             2. Conqueror: No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. (Romans 8:37) Takeaway: Say it with me! God is my Father. God is my King. God is my Provider. God is my Forgiver. God is my Leader. God is my Deliverer.
