Title: The Whole Peace
Text: ”For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” Isaiah 9:6
Target: Peace is not achieved, it is received.
I. Prince of Peace: “Sar”
A.Meaning of the word “Prince”: How can the Son be the Father? a name marking the dignity of one who possesses sovereignty in title; the ruler of a principality or state.
B. Magnitude of the word “Prince”: Designation of how Jesus would come in humility not claiming a title as King, for it would have been interpreted politically.
ii. Luke 2:14: “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased.”
ii. Matthew 10:34: “Do not think that I came to bring peace to the earth. I
C. Manifestation of Peace: He (Jesus) himself is our peace” (Ephesians 2:14)
II. Perspective of Peace: “Shalom”
A. Look at Peace: More than the absence or end of pain, conflict, or turmoil.
B. Lasting Peace: Wholeness, completeness, soundness, health, safety, prosperity all within perpetual permanence.
C. Longing for Peace: “He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore,for the former things have passed away…Behold, I am making all things new”(Rev. 21:4-5)
III. Price for Peace: “For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, and throughhim to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven making peace by theblood of the cross” (Col. 1:19-20)
A. Peace with God: “Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ” (Romans 5:1)
B. Peace from God: “Now may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times in every way” (2 Thess. 3:16)
IV. Possession of Peace: “Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the LordJesus Christ…who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places” (Ephesians 1:2-3)
A. Affords you: “Peace I leave with you, … Not As the world gives do I give to you”(John 14:27)
B. Anchors you: “let the peace of God rule in your hearts” (Col. 3:15)
C. Assures you: “In me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world!” (John 16:33)
D. Arms you: “And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus” (Phil. 4:7)
E. Adheres you: “You keep you in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you.” (Isaiah 26:3)
F. Avenges you: “God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet” (Romans 16:20)
V. Pursuit of Peace: “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.” (Matthew 5:9)
A. LEAVE IT AT THE ALTAR: “leave your gift there before the altar and go. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift” (Matthew 5:24)
B. IF IT'S POSSIBLE: “If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all” (Romans 12:18)
C. WORK FOR UNITY: “eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace” (Ephesians 4:3)
Takeaway: The Good News of Jesus described as peace on earth was not just to bring comfort, but to convict us, convince us, but most of all to change us!
